Service For Peace (SFP) is a nonprofit organization founded in the United States in 2002 that works in partnership with Servicio Para la Paz (SPP) to promote sustainable development and transform communities in the Dominican Republic. Since expanding its work to the country in 2005, the organization has supported community-driven initiatives through the shared leadership of national and international volunteers and local Community Development and Peace Councils, improving quality of life across participating communities. SPP has worked with more than 14 communities nationwide, implementing infrastructure projects such as classroom construction, river flood protection walls, and water tanks, along with community empowerment programs led by local leaders. Servicio Para la Paz was formally incorporated in the Dominican Republic in January 2008.
SFP/SPP promotes the development of communities and individuals through shared volunteer service experiences. Through volunteer engagement and community development initiatives, the organization strengthens local leadership, empowers communities, and improves quality of life, with a special focus on expanding access to safe water.
We envision empowered communities across the Dominican Republic where people have the leadership, knowledge, and resources to shape their own development. Through partnership and service, we strengthen communities that are already leading change and support those that aspire to build a future of dignity, peace, and sustainable access to safe water.
Our work is guided by a set of core values that shape how we serve communities and collaborate with volunteers around the world:
Local and international
volunteers mobilized since 2005
Trees planted
Families with access
to safe water since 2018
Communities impacted
through our projects
